Browser voice, not fake local audio
Every entry includes optional device-generated speech without storing MP3 files or calling an external API.
What the button does
It uses the Web Speech API built into compatible browsers and operating systems. The browser chooses an available voice, preferring an en-JM voice when the device provides one and falling back to another English voice when it does not.
What the button does not do
It does not claim to reproduce a locally reviewed Jamaican pronunciation. Device voices vary, and many do not model Jamaican language phonology well.
Why keep it optional
The control can help visitors hear a rough phrase shape while the visible pronunciation guide and spelling notes remain available to everyone.
Future reviewed recordings
A genuine recording should be labeled separately with speaker consent, place/context metadata, and an editorial review record. Browser speech must never be silently presented as that recording.
